Biography

Leadership Narrative

Viktor Drobotenko is an experienced security professional whose career spans almost three decades across public-sector law enforcement, international security and private-sector risk management.

His professional journey has included service as a Section Chief within the Cyberpolice Department of the National Police of Ukraine, where his work operated in an environment in which crime, evidence and threats increasingly crossed conventional borders.

He also gained international experience through UNPOL and the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, adding multinational cooperation, peacekeeping and post-conflict security to his professional perspective.

At SK SECURITY, Viktor progressed from Deputy Director to Chief Executive Officer and Head of Risk Intelligence & Investigations. His work combines analytical thinking, investigations, situational awareness and modern security practices to help organisations understand complex threats and make informed decisions.

He also serves as Chairman of the Ukrainian Chapter of ASIS International, contributing his experience to the wider professional security community.

His educational background includes law enforcement and law, as well as postgraduate studies in international cooperation for security in post-conflict environments and civilian, police and military cooperation in peacekeeping.

Across these different chapters, one principle connects his work: security is not simply about reacting to danger. It is about understanding uncertainty early enough to make better decisions.

For nearly three decades, Viktor Drobotenko has worked where uncertainty, intelligence and responsibility meet. From law enforcement and cybercrime to international peacekeeping and corporate security, his journey is defined by one enduring discipline: understanding complex situations before deciding how to act.

Viktor Drobotenko’s career began with the foundations of law enforcement and law, but the deeper education came from experience. Over time, security stopped being simply about reacting to incidents. It became a discipline of observation, investigation, judgement and responsibility — often making consequential decisions before every fact is known.

His professional journey moved across very different environments. He served within Ukraine’s National Police as a Section Chief in the Cyberpolice Department, confronting a world where threats, evidence and perpetrators could cross borders almost instantly. Earlier international experience with UNPOL and the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus added another dimension: the importance of cooperation, cultural awareness and trust when institutions and people must work across boundaries.

At SK SECURITY, Viktor carried that experience into the corporate world, progressing through senior leadership roles and now serving as Chief Executive Officer and Head of Risk Intelligence & Investigations. His work brings together analytical thinking, investigations, modern technology and situational awareness to help organisations understand risk before disruption becomes consequence.

Today, as Chairman of the Ukrainian Chapter of ASIS International, Viktor’s role extends beyond protecting organisations to strengthening the wider professional security community. His story is ultimately not about living in fear of threats. It is about building the judgement to separate signal from noise, the discipline to prepare before crisis arrives, and the resilience to adapt when uncertainty cannot be removed.

Interview Opening

Every organisation wants certainty.

But leadership rarely gets certainty.

Sometimes, all you have is a fragment.

A warning.

A pattern that does not quite make sense.

A piece of information that may mean nothing...

or may mean everything.

And somewhere between the signal and the noise, a decision has to be made.

[PAUSE]

Security once meant protecting a building.

Today, it can mean protecting people, information, infrastructure, reputation, institutions and entire organisations from threats that may not even be physically visible.

Welcome to Believe in Future – Amazing Mentor, Global Leadership Series.

I’m Gaurav Garg.

And today, we are entering the world of intelligence, investigations, cybersecurity, resilience — and the human judgement behind all of them.

My guest, Viktor Drobotenko, brings 28 years of experience across public and private security as a leader, trainer and investigator.

His journey has included law enforcement in Ukraine, leadership within the Cyberpolice Department of the National Police of Ukraine, international experience connected with UNPOL and the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, and senior leadership within SK SECURITY.

Today, he serves as Chairman of the Ukrainian Chapter of ASIS International and leads work in risk intelligence and investigations at SK SECURITY.

But this conversation is not simply about security.

It is about something every leader faces:

How do you make responsible decisions when the information in front of you is incomplete?

How do you separate a real signal from noise?

And how do you prepare for threats without allowing fear to become the strategy?

[WARMER]

Viktor Drobotenko, welcome to Believe in Future.

It is a pleasure to have you with us.

[PAUSE]

Viktor, I want to begin before the titles, before Cyberpolice, before corporate intelligence.

I want to begin with the person.

What first made you choose a life in law enforcement and security?
